Guangzhou Metro is very convenient

Guangzhou Metro, Accelerating the City

As the fourth city in mainland China and the first in Guangdong Province to open a metro system, Guangzhou’s subway system has been in operation since 1997, witnessing the rapid development and transformation of the city.

As the provincial capital of Guangdong Province and the core city of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Guangzhou not only needs to develop itself but also lead and drive the common development of surrounding cities, promoting the free flow of people, resources, and various production factors within the Greater Bay Area. The rapid connection with the surrounding cities’ rail transit is an inevitable path for development.

For those of us living in Guangzhou, public transportation such as buses and subways are indispensable for our daily travels. The experience of major cities around the world has proven that only with high-capacity public transportation, especially subway systems, can we effectively alleviate traffic congestion and improve urban transportation efficiency. Since its official opening, Guangzhou’s metro system has been rapidly developing in terms of the number and quality of subway lines as well as operation management.

Here are some of my thoughts on the Guangzhou Metro:

Praising Guangzhou Metro

1.High Line Recognition. The design of Guangzhou Metro’s routes is clear and concise, with each line having a distinct color and number. For example, Line 1 is yellow, Line 2 is blue, and Line 3 is orange. This makes it easy for both local residents and tourists to remember and identify the lines, greatly simplifying the travel process.

2.Reasonable Layout, Convenient Transfers. The metro lines cover the main commercial, residential, and tourist areas of Guangzhou, meeting the travel needs of different people. The metro system connects Guangzhou Railway Station, high-speed rail stations, airports, and important attractions. With platform screen doors and clear signage inside stations, passengers can easily transfer without getting lost, ensuring a quick arrival at their destinations.

3.Good Carriage Environment. The carriages are clean and tidy, with no trash bins, and generally free from unpleasant odors except during peak hours when it gets crowded. The train models are also new, with minimal noise, ensuring a smooth and comfortable ride even on elevated sections.

4.Excellent Service Attitude. Each metro station has an adequate number of high-quality, attentive station staff, providing reliable and caring service to passengers. Wheelchair and baby stroller users can seek assistance from staff without worry. The excellent service attitude and efficient work efficiency have made the Guangzhou Metro the first choice for residents and tourists, laying a solid foundation for its good image and reputation.

5.Impressive Metro Advertisements. The advertising content inside Guangzhou Metro is rich and diverse, covering various aspects of urban culture, historical features, tourist attractions, and social responsibilities. Some advertisements convey urban life knowledge and traffic safety knowledge, while others tell touching stories to appeal for social welfare, evoking passengers’ sense of social responsibility and love.

Areas for Improvement:

There are too many people!!!

During peak hours, the capacity is obviously insufficient. Morning and evening rush hours are really crowded, especially at stations in the city center such as those on Line 3 and Line 5. Even with crowd control measures, boarding can be extremely difficult. I’ll have a chance to introduce the legendary “Death Line 3” station at Tiyu West Road in the future.

Additionally, passenger behavior and manners need improvement. Of course, this issue is subjective and socialized. As a public transportation system, the Guangzhou Metro cannot choose its passengers. Hopefully, through the promotion of proper passenger conduct and etiquette education, Guangzhou Metro can enhance passengers’ cultural literacy and sense of order, creating a civilized and harmonious travel environment together.

XinYan’s Thoughts:

With the increasing population and economic development in Guangzhou, the frequency and distance of residents’ travels have also increased. At the same time, with the continuous expansion of the urban center and the optimization and adjustment of the urban spatial structure, new transportation demands will inevitably emerge. The social and economic development of the city also requires guidance and support from rail transit construction.

Therefore, the Guangzhou Metro bears the dual mission of solving urban transportation problems and guiding urban development. Looking forward to the “Greater Bay Area on Rail” project announced by the Guangzhou government, by 2035, the railway network will cover all county-level cities in the Greater Bay Area, comprehensively covering the central cities, nodal cities, and key urban agglomerations such as Guangzhou and Shenzhen.
