🎉 Congratulations to Siddhartha Gautama’s Christmas Day🎉

📅 Today’s Events

On May 15, 2024, the eighth day of the fourth month in the year of the first lunar month, we celebrated a special day – the day of Sakyamuni Buddha’s Christmas. On this sacred day, we jointly remember and celebrate the birth of the Buddha.

🌸 Significance of Buddha Bathing Day

Sakyamuni Buddha’s Christmas Day, also known as “Buddha Bathing Day”, “Buddha’s Birthday”, etc., is an extremely important day of celebration in Buddhism. Buddhists commemorate the birth of Sakyamuni Buddha by bathing in the Buddha’s bath. By bathing in the Buddha, saluting the Buddha, and reciting sutras, we express our respect and gratitude to the Buddha, and at the same time wash away the dust and dirt in our hearts in pursuit of inner purity.

🎈 The Legendary Birth of the Buddha

According to classical records, more than three thousand years ago, the queen of the Indian state of Kabiravai, “Lady Moye”, gave birth to “Prince Chodarmak Siddhartha”, that is, our master, Siddhartha Gautama, in the Garden of Lumbini. At birth, the Prince was able to walk, and every time he took a step, a lotus flower was born under his feet, and he said with one hand pointing to the sky and the other hand pointing to the sky, “I am the only one in heaven and in the world!”

💧 The Deeper Meaning of Bathing Buddha

Bathing the Buddha is not only to celebrate the birth of the Buddha, but also to observe whether one’s heart is pure. By externally bathing in the Buddha’s Dharma water, we wash away the dust and dirt within us, dispelling greed, anger, and foolishness, so that our own behavior, speech, and mind can remain clean. At the same time, we also return to our parents of the seven lifetimes, our ancestors of all generations, our wronged relatives and debtors, and all sentient beings in the Dharma realm, wishing them to be free from the cycle of reincarnation, free from suffering, and to attain Bodhi.

🙏 Dharma Assembly

Today, XinYan was honored to participate in the pure and solemn Dharma Bathing Ceremony held at the Great Buddha Temple in Guangzhou. Under the guidance of Monk Yao Zhi, we took a bath together, worshipped the Thousand Buddha Confession, and taught the Three Precepts in remembrance of the Buddha’s Dharma Milk Grace. We prayed that the wheel of the Dharma will always turn, the Buddha’s day will increase in splendor, the world will be peaceful, and the people will be happy!

💖XinYan says

On this special day, may we all remember the Buddha’s teachings, always keep our bodies and minds pure, and inspire compassion and wisdom within us. May the Buddha’s compassionate light shine on earth forever, and let us all pray for: stability and prosperity for our country, and happiness and well-being for our people!
